Final Part: 1

1. Some things that I liked about this class was the motivation that it provided. I also enjoyed the free time and the opportunities to finish assignments from other classes.

2. What I didnt really like about this class was that it was my first class in the morning, so I would still be a bit drowsy and I didn't have the energy to stay awake. Some of the SSS were a bit too cheesy and obvious for me.

3. You should include a little more complex SSS instead of straight forwarded thinking quotes. You should also encourage us to find our own quotes that WE look up to as individuals. Because not everyone has the same morals and mentality. So you should give us more freedom on the SSS.

4. Well, I did all my work for the entire 2 semesters and passed the class with an A,  So I somewhat did put effort into it.

5. Yes I am because I actually look forward to accomplishing those goals.

6. Yes, because  I want to be the best person I can be

7. I will always remember the acronym "CTR" and it's definition because it was everywhere in this class. I will also remember the Do The Right Thing song because it's really catchy despite the fact that I dislike it.

The Ultimate Choice

Of all the choices you will ever make, one choice supersedes all others-the ultimate choice. This one choice will help you to always make correct decisions. This one choice, The Ultimate Choice, is your keystone to being the best student and person you can possibly be. This one choice will forever affect you for good more than any other choice. THE ULTIMATE CHOICE.

To be a CTR Person- To always choose the right!!!

Reflection: This statement oversees and summarizes all the other statements we've had in this class. The choice to be a good person will determine and influence the other choices you make in life. So this one choice will basically determine who you are and who you want to be as a person and all the other actions you take from that point on will be reflecting upon that decision you made to be a good person.

Student Success Statement

'Success is not an accident. Success is actually a choice. Are the habits you have today on par with the dreams you have of tomorrow?"

Alan Stein

Reflection: Success doesn't just occur out of the blue or as an accident. It is a choice of what actions you take to get to the place you want to be in and if the actions you're taking currently align with the goal you have.

"A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder."

Thomas Carlyle

Reflection: This basically means that without goals, we cant go anywhere. We need goes to keep us going or else we'll just get stuck in the same place.
We're humans and we require ambitions to keep us moving forward.
A ship without a rudder is basically useless just as a human without goals.
We must know what we want to accomplish and what we want to do in order to be someone in life. Goals are our rudders and we're steering the ship.

" I would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating ."

Sophocles

Reflection: Its better to loose honestly than to  win dishonestly.
For example, cheating on a test might get your to pass it but it will affect you in the long run.
So its better to be truthful.
"Memorial Day"

1. Memorial day, originally called Decoration day, is a day of remembrance for those who have died in the service of The United States.

2. The purpose of memorial day is to remember the fallen soldiers and people who served for their country.
3.It is held on May, 25

4. A few ways to show honor and respect memorial day is to gather collection for troops or volunteer in a parade.

6.
Memorial day started in the civil war
General Logan made memorial  day official
It was first known as decoration day

7. To show respect, I will silently appreciate the lives of everyone who fought for a right cause,

Dennis Prager

Reflection: Having good morals and being well mannered and having a positive out view of life will determine your future and the people in it. People with respect and who you are able to trust will far succeed a lazy, disrespectful person. The person with good values will always get the job and will be surrounded by positive people and guilt free mind.

"Nothing is ever gained in doing what's wrong."

Wilford Woodruff

Reflection: When you do the wrong thing, it may seem like you've gained something but that feeling is only temporary. The feeling is replaced with guilt and sometimes self-pitty.
Nothing good can come from doing something bad.

"Nicest Man in the World"

Patrick Morgan

Florida

Reflection: I honestly think it's great what the guy did, he didn't do it to get acknowledged or for any other selfish reason. He just did it because he's a good person , which is something the world is lacking of. The guy that owned the money didn't even seem to care. who leaves thousands of dollars in their IPAD? That's pretty idiotic, the Ipad could have been stolen along with his cash.
I still think the other guy was a jerk. Patrick returned his money, ALL OF IT. He should have been more appreciative.

"The reward for doing right is mostly an internal phenomenon:
Self-respect, dignity (self-worth), integrity, and self-esteem."

Dr Laura Schlessinger

Reflection: You cant always expect to receive a metal whenever you do the right thing. But you can always expect to receive self satisfaction. Despite the fact that the reward for doing something right isn't an object, it still clears you of a free conscious because you did the right thing.
LAUSD: Students

Services and Benefits

  • Student Health and Human Services:  These services will benefit me because they are created to maximize the achievement of a student. They deliver quick mental health and human services.

  •  Student Medical Services: I actually think this is great for the children and parents that can't afford going to the doctor. This service works together to provide needed health care to to students with no access to a doctor.

  • Psychologist services: This is interesting because they can make a positive long lasting change in a student's life including behavior and social interacting. I think this is a necessary profession to have at schools.
Others:Finding schools, helping children with disabilities, providing financial support, providing mental support...

I dont really think I need any of this, i am a somewhat a mentally balanced student and financially stable. But I think many students would benefit A LOT from what LAUSD has to offer, if it's either financial or medical. I honestly didnt know that students had this type of treatment but I think its great how LAUSD is actually providing us with resources to succeed in our educational life.

"When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive."

Alan Paton

Forgive: to stop feeling angry or resentful for an offense, flaw, or mistake.

Reflection: How are we going to strive in life if we keep gripping on to the past? You have to forgive but not forget so the same thing won't happen again. You have to learn from experiences and become wiser. No matter how much wrong someone did to you, you have to forgive and learn from that and improve on it.

"Dare to stand alone."

Thomas S. Monson

"In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing."

Theodore Roosevelt

Reflection: When you're faced with a decision, you always have to strive for making the choice to choose the right thing. Think to yourself on which choice is the right one.

Progress Post

So far, I have mostly written long term goals, so I know I wont accomplish them now but i'm working up on them.
So far I have achieved 68 goals in less than a year. But i have a long way to go.
from now on, im gonna try to write more short term goals so i can accomplish more.
for example, small goals that can lead up to the big goals.
Like practice for the basketball team so then i can make the basketball team.
SO from now on, ima make more short term goals to encourage myself to accomplish the long term goals.

"Make each day your masterpiece. You have to apply yourself each day to become a little better, and over a period of time you become a lot better."

John Wooden

UCLA

Reflection: This means that in order to improve or accomplish something you have to dedicate to it. Even a little of dedication can make a difference in the outcome of whether you end up being successful or not. For example, practicing for a performance, if you practice everyday for a little while, it'll help you improve. But you just don;t practice at all, you won't see any positive results.

Military Medical Opportunities

Duties and Responsibilities: In emergencies or in combat not all physicians are always immediately available to treat the injured or wounded. When physicians are not available, military technicians provide basic and emergency medical treatment. They also assist medical officers in caring for the sick or the injured.

Salary: 62,162

Education:  Training occurs on the job and through advanced courses
course content typically includes:
  • Emergency medical treatment
  • basic nursing care
  • study of the human body
  • minor surgical procedures
  • medicines for diagnosing disease

Reflection:The only reason why I would like to become a military medical technician is because I would be saving people's life. But then again. I don't support the overall idea of people beating each other to death for freedom? It's ironic actually. So, no. I don't want to support the fact that people have to give up their lives by getting slaughtered. I'm surprised people still support the concept of war judging by the fact that we've gotten so far in technology and knowledge. We should know by now that war doesn't solve problems, instead it causes destruction. death, sorrow, depression, isolation and not to mention. it takes freedom away from people and the whole point of war was to sustain our freedom.

The 10 Indian Commandments

  1. Treat the Earth and all tat dwells therein with respect
  2. Remain close to the Great Spirit
  3. Show great respect to your fellow beings
  4. Work together for the benefit of all mankind
  5. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed
  6. Do what you know to be right
  7. Look after the well-being of mind and body
  8. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good
  9. Take full responsibilities of your actions.

Reflection: I think it's interesting how they pass down there commandments to their children and then their children passes it down their children and so on. But I also find it sad how many people don't respect Indians, despite their kindness and help, Americans have them in reservations. Back then, they weren't called "reservations" , it was actually beautiful non polluted lands that we managed to completely destroy. The United States deny rights to Indians despite the fact that they have more heart than most of us do.

"I promise should never be broken."

Alexander Hamilton
.

Reflection: Promises aren't made to be broken. You might promise someone to do something and they'll trust you and reply on you to live up to it. But if you say you're going to do something and you don't, that trust fades away because now they know you cant be entrusted to do something.
Breaking promises can break friendships, family, loved ones and worst of all.. trust.

"Goodness is the only investment that never fails."

Henry David Thoreau

Reflection: Many investments you'll make during your life will fail but investing yourself and your time to being a good person never fails because that's a good thing to do because over time that investing you did on being a good person pays off

 World Records

1. The most smarties/m&ms eaten in one minute blind folded using chopsticks
-Was achieved by Ashrita Furman
-The world record was set in New York, USA on December 8, 2011

2. Most big macs consumed (23,000 big macs)
-Was achieved by Donald Gorske
-The world record was set in the united states August 12 2008

"My basic principle is that you don't make decisions because they are easy; you don't make them because they are cheap; you don't make them because they're popular; you make them because they're right."

Theodore Hesburgh
(former president of Notre Dame)

Refection: I think what he's trying to say is the real reason why people make decisions. A person makes decisions to find out what the best option is. They narrow down their options and pick choices that they think are the right ones. Decision making takes critical thinking and sense of judgement.

'It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good. and unpopular that which is unsound (not good)

Student Success Statement

"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong."

Abraham Lincoln

Reflection: It doesn't matter if you win of loose as long as you did it with honesty and complete fairness. But when he says that he stands with anybody that is right and leaves them when their wrong just makes me think about friendship. If someone stuck with you through everything, that means they're real friends but when they leave you when you make a mistake, that's not true loyalty.
If you care about someone, you have to stick with them even when they don't' make the best decisions because you have to be there to fix them and guide them, not just "part ways."
You stick with people you care about, even when they start trailing off the right road, you just don't leave. So in that case, I don't agree with him.
April Fool's Day

1. April Fool's Day is held on April 1st.

2. The purpose of April Fool's is to play practical jokes and hoaxes on each other, the jokes and their victims are known as "April Fools"
It's been popular since the 19th century
It is well known in Canada, Europe, Brazil, Australia and the United States

3. The origins of April fool's is obscure
The most commonly cited theory holds that it dates from about 1582, the year France adopted the Gregorian Calendar , which shifted the observance of New Year's Day from the end of March (around the time of the March  to the first of January.
According to popular lore, some folks, out of ignorance, stubbornness, or both, continued to ring in the New Year on April first and were made the butt of jokes and pranks on account of their "foolishness." This became an annual tradition which ultimately spread throughout Europe and other parts of the world.

4. Pros:
  • It's light hearten
  • It's fun
  • playful
  • It's fun to plan
  • Causes laughter

Cons:
  • Can become mean spirited
  • Can cause distrust
  • Can become dangerous
  • Can be taken over the top
  • Someone can get hurt

"Character is higher than Intellect"

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reflection: Having a good character and being a good person and having a good pure personality is higher than intellect because being smart or knowing everything doesn't always lead you to happiness. And happiness is the goal to my life. I'd rather be happy with the person I am.
Health Sciences Librarian

Duties and Responsibilities: they support the educational, research and clinical needs for the school of medicine. They acquire the catalog books. they also assist those who are using the library for research or educational purposes but they work in health related materials.

Education:
  • Graduate degree in library science from a credited institution
  • Educational background in health sciences .

Reflection: Well Health sciences librarians clearly get a better pay check than normal librarians. But I don't think this is the job for me. It doesn't appeal to me and as a matter of fact is seems a tad boring. I love books but the not health science books. So I don't think i'm fit for this job.

"I trust that my hard work will pay off."

Tyler Hawks

Reflection: Tyler didn't posses natural talent for basketball but he did posses motivation. You have to believe in the hard work you put into something. What people are lacking is motivation, the lack of motivation is present because they have no goals. How are you suppose to strive, if you have nothing to strive for? People don't just wake up one day and become a successful person, it's something you have to work for, it takes time. But that time you put into that goal you're focusing on pays off.The more time you put into something, the closer you are into accomplishing it.
UC Davis Requirements

UC Davis has always been an interest of mine because they happen to provide a very good Vet Program. I've always wondered what the requirements were to get accepted to this school. I've also wondered about just the basic information and knowledge I would need about UC Davis.

Freshman Admission Requirements:
-High school Diploma
-Courses must be completed with no less than a C
-GPA of 3.0 or higher
-Personal Essay
- Examination (test)
-"a-g" requirements

b. English
    (or language of instruction)
Four years

d. Laboratory scienceTwo years (Three years recommended)
e. Language other than English
    (or other second language)
Two years (Three years recommended)
f. Visual and performing artsOne year
g. College preparatory electiveOne year

There's a lot of competition for this school, but I really want to attend here because it's perfect and it's not as expensive as other private universities. For my 4 years of high school, i'm planning to pass all my classes with nothing lower than a C also want to take at least 4 AP classes and pass them. For volunteering work, I'm planning to volunteer at an animal shelter for 2 years. I would also want to do community service at the beach to pick up trash. I'm also planning to be in part of a program, like leadership for 2 years or so. Finally, I want to graduate high school with a GPA of at least 3.6 and not fail any classes through my 4 years of high school.

Student Success Statement

"True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right."

Brigham Young

Reflection: This statement is half right. Why? Because there's people in other countries who are good honest humble people but don't have any freedom because of restrictions of religious purposes. There's children born into poverty while rich benefited children are born into riches. How is that fair?
Slaves didn't have any freedom or independence but that doesn't mean they were bad people,
True Independence and freedom no longer exists, there's always people that are going to tell you what to do and what to be believe in and how to act and dress, there's always a bigger power that's going to limit your freedom greatly.
Creative Writing

I honestly just feel tired all the time. I dont know, i'm just drained. I don't feel like going out or talking. Why? Because I'm a messed up kid. I don't even do anything energy consuming the entire day but some how all my energy is gone and I end up taking a nap. What's mostly been on my mind is the future basically, school and all those lovely stressing thoughts.
How depressing is it to go to school for about 15 years and then graduate and then go to college and then get a job and then die.
You need money to do anything exciting which requires you to get a job but what most people don't realize is by the time you've saved up all this money from years and years of hard work BAM life hits your in the face and before you know it, you're 50, You can't do any of those things you've dreamed of doing as a child anymore, because by then life has sucked all the energy and hope from you.
I don't want to become one of those people. I don't want to be stuck in a government office cubical for the rest of my days. I don't wan to file papers or talk on the phone with rude customers. I don't want that. I hate the fact that everything requires money or a ridiculous amount of time and energy.
Just the thought of it drains me out. Ahh, life.

St. Patrick's Day

1) St. Patrick was a man who made extensive missionary work in Ireland which is mostly why he's famous . During thirty years, he supposedly converted 135,00 people, established 300 churches, and consecrated 350 bishops. He was enslaved in Ireland and learned their rituals and custom and language and it was these people that he had converted into Catholicism. He managed to escape but the people begged him to come back so he established catholic teachings in Ireland and managed to convert some of the Celtic symbolism and Christianize them. He used the clover as a sign of trinity.

2) The purpose was to celebrate the Roman Catholic feast of the patron saint of Ireland and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. It celebrates the heritage and culture of Irish in general .

3) It is celebrated in March 17 Because it is the traditional day that Saint Patrick died.

4)We wear green because it represents the return of spring as well as the Irish culture.

I honestly think this video was nice and all, but keith was never a "nobody". It sad how you can only be noticed if you're popular. Keith wasnt a nobody, he looked like an amazing loving person but I still think that those football players didnt deserve that fame and admiration because they thought Keith wasn't popular enough. This is a bad example of being good, there are far greater examples.
We shouldn't just appreciate people that are athletes, there's far greater people that do far greater deeds that arent recognized.

Student Success Statement

"They're only truly great who are truly good."

George Chapman

Reflection: This statement basically means that personality is what makes a person great, it doesnt matter how much they've accomplished or how much money or success they have.
Good humble people are honestly the greatest people, it doesn't matter if they're homeless or poor, it really doesn't matter. they deserve it all.

Volunteeer Opportunities

1 A). Silverado Hospice, Los Angeles: This volunteer work is looking for volunteers that can accompany termally ill patients who are lonely and in the verge of dieing. The volunteers have to be willing to read the newspaper to them, listen to soothing music and share stories.

   B) Providence TrinityCare Hospice:  This volubnteer work is about making a difference in patient's lives. There's differint areas like art, crafts, transportation, and office and administration.

C)"Creative Comapion" California Hospital Medical Center: These volunteers get to draw, sketch, or paint with their patients. Almost like art therapist. The patients and volunteer talk about a place of story and the volunteer tries to draw it with the help of the patient's imagination.

   D) Sydney Cooper Senior Smiles: This volunteer work requires socializing with seniors who would benefit from companionship. You have to have a big heart and open mind. And the schedule is flexible.

3) You can apply to these volunteer positions by printing out a form that is provided in the website, you can also visit the place and take a look at the positions they offer and get your sing up form there. Some of the volunteer works require a background check.

Student Success Statement

"Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn't. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don't do it."

GEORGE MTCHELL, Sentate Majority Leader, Presidential Medal of Freedom, Disney Chairman of the Board.

Reflection: He obviously knows what he's talking about because he has a fancy suit. But doesn't his statement make him a hypocrite because I'm sure he's cheated at least once in his life time, we're humans and sadly we lie and decieve.
But I guess he has a point, steroids are just a short term effect.
